Elena Kawazu

Elena Kawazu began her violin studies at four, and her superb natural talents were recognized early by prominent teachers in Chicago. At the age of seven she first played for Ruggiero Ricci, and since then she has had lessons on most of the 24 Paganini Caprices with him. Throughout her musical journey, she has performed at various venues, highlights being the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, the Maly Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Gasteig Munich, and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion Millennium Park Concert Hall.

At the age of nine, Elena made her orchestra debut with the Staatskapelle Weimar, performing the Mendelssohn concerto as a prize winner in the Fifth International Louis Spohr Competition in Germany. Since then she has performed with several orchestras, including the Wuhan Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Moscow State Chamber Orchestra and Festival Orchestra of Interlaken Classics. Elena has also worked under respected conductors and artists such as Vladmir Spivakov and Shlomo Mintz. Her media coverage includes the BBC One documentary “The Making of Me” with Vanessa Mae. Her professional recordings include a masterclass with Shlomo Mintz First Online Academy, iClassical Academy, and a live recording with the Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Currently Elena is an ambassador of the iClassical Academy as an outstanding young musician. She gained early admission to the bachelor program under Prof. Bartek Niziol at the Bern University of Arts last year. Recent accomplishments include selection to be a student artist for the 2015 Starling-Delay Symposium.
